Harris Can Set the Predicate at the Convention for a Tough Fall Battle
Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, a former coach, should follow the wisdom of football legend, Vince Lombardi, who said while confidence is contagious, demanded his team prepare for the next tough battle and avoid overconfidence.
As Democrats arrive for their Chicago convention, there is an understandable, if understated, hubris. The Harris-Walz ticket has enjoyed weeks of near-flawless performances, large enthusiastic crowds, surging polls and it's her opponent who looks like an out of touch old man
.
I expect the convention will go well, and firm up her profile.
The tough battle is ahead. There are advantages to a short campaign; there are risks too: less time to recover from a mistake or miscalculation.
I'd rather have Harris' hand than Trump's. Still, the last several weeks will be the easiest of her campaign. The test, which actually starts next week in Chicago, is how she deals with what Republicans see as real vulnerabilities.
